Connect Your Replacement Genie Receiver | AT&T DIRECTV
This video will walk you through the steps to replace your old receiver with your new Genie HD DVR.
Step one is moving the cables from your old Genie to your new Genie. Take the new Genie HD DVR and set it next to your old Genie, with the backs facing toward you. Move each cable one at a time from the old Genie to the matching port on the new Genie HD DVR. Make sure all connections are snug and secure.
Then connect your new power cord. Do not reuse your old power cord. Pause this video while you transfer the cables. When you've completed connecting all of the cables, including the new power cord, the new Genie DVR will power up. Set your old Genie and old power cord aside. If you have a return note in your install box, you'll need to return your old Genie and old power cord once the setup is complete.
Step two is following the guided TV setup screens. Look on your TV screen, and you should see the Satellite Dish Setup screen. Keep the default settings as they are, and leave the Order ID field blank. Just select "Continue", and follow the on-screen instructions.
In step three, we'll activate your receiver online. Go to directv.com/activate, and sign in to your account. Just follow the online instructions. You can also call our automated activation line at 800-388-6597.
Step four is completing the setup. After activation, you'll be prompted to program your remote control. Just follow the on-screen instructions or go to att.com/directvremote for further instructions. That's it. Your new Genie HD DVR is set up and ready to go. Remember, if you have a return note in your install box, you'll need to ship back your old Genie box and power cord within days to avoid non-return fees.
The rest of this video covers pairing your existing Genie Mini if you have one or more.
Step five: Pairing your existing Genie Mini with the new Genie HD DVR. To pair, grab your Genie HD DVR remote control and press "Menu". Select "Settings & Help", and then select "Settings". Next select "Whole-Home", then "Manage Clients", and then "Add Clients". The PIN that displays on the new HD DVR's TV screen will need to be entered on the TV at all of your Genie Mini locations. Do not dismiss the screen at your new Genie HD DVR location until the setup of the Genie Mini is complete.
Now go to your Genie Mini and enter the PIN from the new Genie HD DVR TV screen. Then, select "Add a New Location", enter a name for this location, and select "Save Name". You'll see a confirmation screen. Just select "OK". On the Copy Settings screen, select "Skip This Step" to apply default settings to your Genie Mini. On the Remote Setup screen, select "Setup Remote Later", then select "Watch DIRECTV" or "Browse the Guide" to complete the guided setup.
When you're finished setting up all of your Genie Minis, return to the Genie HD DVR, and select "Done" on the Add a Client screen. If you have any difficulty pairing your new Genie HD DVR with your Genie Mini, we have helpful troubleshooting steps at att.com/addclient.
That's it. You're all set up to enjoy the new Genie HD DVR. Remember, if you have a return note in your install box, you'll need to ship back your old Genie box and power cord within days to avoid non-return fees. Do not include your remote control, cables, accessories, or any personal equipment, such as DVD players.
Thanks for choosing AT&T.
